Classic Space - After Hours... . Built Dec. 2012. Merry Christmas!! . Built for the Classic Space Pocket Money Contest . See the contest page for the rules.
I decided to take quite an unconventional take on "In the spirit of CS your vehicle should not be focused on war or military themes; think exploration, mining and research." I thought: "What do those smilin' space-farers do when they're not working?" Once I came up with that "thesis statement", I got right to work!
Oh, and just as something fun, I incorporated a little design flaw into each of the 3 models. See if you can figure them out, but if you can't, the answers (or at least my answers) are at the bottom of the page. :)
First up is the main model, consisting of 93 pieces (including the fig), the "BBQ Blaster," a leisure cruiser equipped with barrels of fun!
The wings can be folded up.
Yes, they are lasers... ...but not the lethal kind... ...THE LIGHT SHOW KIND!! *Woo hooo yeah*
The BBQ! "Eat mor chikin."
The front of the BBQ Blaster becomes a hover jet...
...which also becomes a mini-sub!
Model 1's piece inventory.
On to the first alternate model, consisting of 53 pieces.
Even spacemen find time for golf!
The astronaut uses an electromagnetic golf club, so he has to wear the battery on his back. He also wears heavy boots to keep him from floating off the planet's surface during swings.
Due to safety concerns because of the extreme force exerted by the club, the user doesn't swing the club, the club swings itself!
If moon dust accumulates on your golf ball, use the automated golf ball cleaner.
Every golfer needs a caddy.
The caddy doesn't actually carry the golf club, he just keeps score.
Model 2's piece inventory.
On to the last model, consisting of 51 pieces.
When they're not working, they're building! Isn't that right, Kelso?
These last few pics are of the bigger ship. My camera was having a VERY hard time focusing on the smaller one. Sorry. :(
Model 3's piece inventory.
Design Flaws -
Model 1 - It must be pretty hard to eat a BBQ drumstick in the vacuum of space, right?... ...right?
Model 2 - The boots happen to be magnetic, and the golf club is electromagnetic. Well, the upside is that the astronaut usually lands right around where the golf ball did. That's a plus!
Model 3 - Bricklink will steal a lot of money from you. Isn't that right, Kelso? :P
