2013 Mocathalon entry: STUDly Crue . . Team A STUDly Crew in Category 13: The Band 2013 MOCAthalon Team A Studly Crew Hailing from all parts of the globe and rockin' the world with their latest hit “99 Problems But a Brick Ain't One”, it's the one and only: STUDly Crue! Starring: iMime Rinse “the Wizard” Jan Paul Ro-Rocker Sebeus I aka “The Man” Ben “The King” The lights dim...the crowd is cheering...the Crue is calm and collected...when suddenly... "BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH! WE WERE MEANT TO BUILD FOR SO MUCH MORE!!!" The concert hall is rocked by an overpowering blast of light and music from the Crue, as they lead off their concert with the rock-ballad "Meant To Build!" With their giant, stylized initials hanging overhead, the Crue belts out Billboard hits like "Bricks on the Ceiling", "Gimme STUDs", "The Hardest Brick to Click", "Stairway to SNOT", "Another Brick in the Wall", and "Whole Lotta Bricks", among others. United by the bonds of rock, friendship, and good 'ol clutch power, the STUDly Crue is like a well-oiled music-machine. There's no stopping these guys! And now, on to introductions! The prestigious spot of The Crue's lead guitarist goes to Paul Ro-Rocker . Slightly brain-dead from listening to way too much heavy rock as a kid, Paul only knows how to play two types of rock: hard and harder. His leather clothing is always torn from screaming fans, and his hair (the result of a cotton candy machine mishap) can be seen for miles. Although he presents a bizzare spectacle, deep down Paul is a nice guy who just happened to listen to “Highway to Hell” one too many times. But when it comes to guitar playing, Paul is unmatched and totally lives up to his “Ro-Rocker” moniker. When it comes to bass guitar, no one is better than Ben “The King”. The King has held a bass guitar in his hands since he was a kid, strumming away even as a captain of his own pirate ship. After the pirating business got too hot for him, The King cleverly helped found The STUDley Crue to avoid the authorities. Now sporting a top-hat and flaming red bass guitar, The King tears up the speakers with his strumming, all the while wearing his trademark smirk the ladies can never get get enough of. Sebeus I aka “The Man” keeps the beat going on percussion. Trained in the art of drums on one of his many secretive voyages on the high seas, The Man is impervious to any distractions, whether it be throngs of screaming chicks or his fellow bandmates, who are constantly trying to put his shirt back on his muscular body. His drumming skills cannot be touched by any living person, exemplified by his decision to to roll with metal tools over drumsticks. Why? “Cause drumsticks are too mainstream,” he disgustedly mutters. STUDley Crue's latest member, iMime bangs away at the keyboard like an animated maniac. iMime was working a dreary day job as a medievel literature typist when the STUDley Crue snagged him for his fast-fingerwork. He's given the Crue a great boost of enthusiasm, and his white face paint has drawn heaps of Lady Ga Ga fans the Crue's way. He's enjoying himself immensely...just look at that smile! There are DJ's...and then there is Rinse “the Wizard” Jan . Born and raised on a steady diet of Dutch techno music, The Wizard adds an undertone of electronic rhythms to the Crue's rocky-heavy tunes. His knowledge of funk, pop, techno, and rap is insane, and some would even go as far as to say “magical”. It's rumored The Wizard's hat was taken off a dead music warlock he defeated in an LCC tournament...a rumor Rinse has never dispelled. Sitting at his “pulpit of awesomeness”, The Wizard can always be trusted upon to send the crowd into a frenzy. The Crue's monochromatic artwork underlines their hard rock heritage and retro funk style. The entire stage can move back and forth, allowing the Crue to get close and personal with their crazed fans. Just don't get crushed! Flushed with excitement from his victory over the infamous MOCpages Picture Demon, Chris Phipson gets down to his undies and breaks loose. Look at that man go! Background info: Going to concerts has always been a big pastime of mine (I've seen over 20 artists in concert), so when I saw this category I knew I had to try to capture that feeling in brick-form. I went with a simple, three part color scheme to highlight the raw power and intensity you feel when you're at a rock concert; red, white, and black worked seemed to work the best, and since I have the most of those pieces, I went with that scheme. PLEASE NOTE: there was no photoshop or editing done to the photos...everything was photographed using a complicated lighting-set-up, which I am very proud of. I know that it's hard to capture the emotions and power of a rock concert, but I'm very happy with the way it turned out. Best of luck to my competitors, and as always: GO STUDLY CREW!
