Pick-up truck . Pick-up truck with full suspension, Pitman-arm steering, and three speed gearbox. With the exception of a few parts in the front axle and crash bar, plus two part in the gear selector, all made with components available in 1994. .
Engine bay with bonnet propped up. Four cylinder in-line longitudinally mounted engine driven by rear wheels only.
The large gear wheel the top of which is visible to the left of the engine block is part of the steering gear; the Pitman arm arm that pushes the steering linkage is attached to the same spindle as the large gear, which is operated by the steering wheel via an 8-toothed pinion and two universal joints.
The steering linkage is mounted fore of the axle, meaning that to accommodate steering geometry, each steering arm is offset the opposite way to that seen where the steering linkage is aft of the axle.
The hole in the bonnet is for two reasons - primarily, I ran out of suitable pieces, which consequently meant that I had to devise an excuse - so I used a horn from the 8868 compressor truck to make an air intake mouth.
Front suspension is via a solid axle sprung by three large springs from the 8880. Two springs weren't quite enough, and four made it ridiculously stiff, so three was an unrealistic, but effective, compromise.
The blue rotor arms link the axle to the chassis, allowing it to rise and fall in parallel to the chassis, thus maintaining the camber of the front wheels.
The steering arms are linked to the solid axle by way of turntables a la the Car Chassis 8860. The steering linkage and bottom of the Pitman arm (a black rotor) are also visible.
No surprises with the rear suspension - trailing arm with floating rear differential. However a rear anti-roll bar is incorporated, very similar to the one on my slightly smaller scale red "Truck".

View of interior from above. Gear stick is on a pivot and is shown in 1st in this shot - as gear stick is pulled back, neutral comes next, then 2nd, then 3rd. The black peg used to create the angle in the stick is one of the very stiff sort from the late 1980s, chosen deliberately to allow the angle to be made whilst keeping it from bending unintentionally.
The white object behind gear stick opens up to make a little storage box.
Gearing shown from below (front of vehicle to left, rear to right). Same ratios as those used in 8865 are used again (why reinvent something that works so well?), but layout is slightly different, mainly in that it is back-to-front; as the gear stick is on a pivot, the selector moves in the opposite direction to the handle.

View from the rear. As this is a pick-up truck, it has a tail flap that raises and lowers. The design of the twin upright exhaust pipes is recycled from my yellow Lorry with pendular front suspension, as is that of the stalked wing mirrors. The doors are shown open - that's breaking new ground for me, my first creation with doors !
