LoM An Enemy . . After many weeks of buying and waiting for BrickLink orders to arrive, I finally put this together. I wanted to do a colab. with Justin L. but he got grounded and I haven't heard back from him since. Anyway, this is my entry to the regional challenge 'Escape'. I went to the marketplace to exchange some gems with the jeweler there for some gold coins because I needed more to stay longer at the Heartfire Inn. Sadly, they don't accept jewels there which would make it a lot easier. I got off Destiny and started tying him up on a post left for that reason. While I was doing that, I looked around at the different stands. There was a farmer selling exotic animals, a pale old man selling strange objects, a wine vendor, two blacksmiths, and finally at the far back, the jeweler. When I looked at the jeweler's stand, I saw he was selling a diamond to a strange looking man. For some reason, I had an unsettling feeling once I laid eyes on him. Once he had his diamond, he started walking in the opposite direction that the dirt path was. I decided to see where he was going, so I followed him at a short distance. After a relatively short walk, he walked up to some sort of ancient ruin. He carried the diamond he bought and I wondered what he would do. He lifted his diamond and muttered something in a strange dialect. I watched a bluish, spherical thing rise from a spire in the middle of the structure. It stopped rising and moved to the diamond. It stopped moving when was in touching distance from the gem. Then somthing strange happened that looked like the ball was being sucked into the diamond! After the ball was completely gone, the diamond had adopted a bluish color like that of the ball. It made me wonder if the diamond actually sucked the ball in. After this occurred, the man, who I know knew to be a mage, put the transformed jewel into his staff. The ball must have been containing something of great power because once the mage secured the jewel in his staff, it started glowing white! All except the jewel was glowing for a few seconds. Once the glowing stopped, the staff had changed it's form! I felt a bit shaken up about all this power could do. The man turned around and as he gazed at me, hatred seemed to emanate from his eyes. "You have seen too much. Now you will die!" he said. He jumped to my left and started hovering off the ground. A ring of fire appeared around him. At this I charged him with the only weapon I had with me: my sword. He said something under his breath and blasted fire from the palm of his hand. I was knocked back from this attack and also knocked out of range. My arm hurt badly from the blow. I used the knockback to my advantage and ran back to the marketplace. Once I got back to the marketplace, I made my trade with the jeweler as planned. What I did that I wasn't going to do before my mage encounter was to buy an elven dagger and a shield. The elf that sold me the dagger said that it had a boomerang like effect if it was thrown and missed. I figured that it would be useful to have a second throw if my first missed. The shield I settled with was a dwarfen shield designed to protect against dragon fire. It had an emblem to indicate that. As I rode away, I swore to myself that one day I would kill that mage. And so my adventure begins.
