Operation: Steam Knights (OSK130703) - Dark Elf Evolution . Possible future Cuusoo project... . Over on Cuusoo I put up a project called Operation: Steam Knights - Dark Elf. One of the complaints most commonly raised about the design was that the wings were too small. Though I explained this is a magical suit of armour and flight is achieved via elf magic, I have to admit the wings were a little underwhelming. First Attempt: Technically this is the "second" attempt as this isn't the original design but the modified version. But let's not get too technical. This first attempt was intended to keep the bat like feel of the original wings, but build them using system pieces to retain that mechanical feel. The results however weren't to my own standards and I rejected them without experimenting at alternate poses or even putting the mech into flight mode. Second attempt: Flight mode: This uses a variation on the wing design I used for my dark knight and I do like the dragon like feel it gives the flight mode. They are very heavy, so I suspect the engineering in real bricks might need some more thought, but the look is what I'm aiming for. The design isn't on cuusoo yet so it isn't possible to support it. But I'll take a look at adding it once my latest project has passed approval stage. Knight Mode: Because the wings are so big they have the added bonus of acting like a support stand when in "cape" mode. The knight can rest against them while positioned to the back. Automaton Mode: With the pilot removed the chest plate folds into the seat to form a robot head so the armour can operate as a "golden army" type automaton warrior. Note the two smallest wing blades can be detached for use by the pilot as swords. Description: Dark Elf Biography: The Elves of the far north have forsaken the ancient pacts with humans and dwarves in favour of war and conquest. To this end they have harnessed the power of the Steam Knight technomagic to create their converting armour. The armour has a robotic form which operates without a pilot, however when worn as armour the "mind" of the robot is overpowered by that of the Elf piloting it. Weapons: The dark Elves carry wing shaped broadswords and can detach the smallest "feathers" from their armours wings to be used as swords by the elf pilot. Weakness: Evil magic has robbed them of their reason. Utterly mad, they will attempt any scheme, no matter how suicidal, to rid their world of their enemies. Their magic can be countered using good magic, particularly that of their cousins the wood elves.
