White Castle . The CCCP would like to thank the Normans for building this so far from home 900 years ago... . Decisive Action NATION: The Communist Collective Of Curious People TERRITORIAL DEFENSIVE POWER : LAND After the Battle of Hastings, hundreds of castles much like this were built all over England. William the Conqueror was amazingly productive... We found one in the CCCP's territory (currently bits of central Russia with a sliver of Western China), somewhere old Bill never got close to, but historical accuracy never bothered us... A shiny new anti-tank gun on each tower and voila! An impregnable fortress for 21st Century warfare. The general arrives to inspect his new (old) facility. He can only hope they don't lower the drawbridge and raise the portcullis quite so readily for our enemies... Honey, I shrank the infantry. And made them wear spacesuits. They were not amused, despite what they look like... This should make Moto Moto Stop Stop... The central tower houses the strings, pulleys and gears that operate the drawbridge and portcullis. The Murder Hole, just in case invaders get through the door. The Normans would have poured boiling tar through this grate onto their heads. Nice. Since this is the 21st Century, we use something far nastier... Just in case the guns fail, there's still arrow slits all around the building, all accessible via steps and walkways. 'Cos if an anti tank gun won't do it, a bow and arrow will, right? The half timbered barracks building. Which has a nice cosy atmosphere, so the infantry use it as a pub. Once a stable, now somewhere for the general to keep his car. And a peace cow. The troops will eat well tonight... It's mostly a big pile of white bricks, but I did make an effort on certain details... It's a fact that most of these castles were originally built very quickly, and when you visit them it's easy to see where the Normans rushed the job. Since they were so over-engineered most of them are still standing 900 years later. Most of them were extensively messed with by the Victorians to turn them into private residences, but this is largely how it would originally have been. Apart from the guns, of course... Night falls, but the CCCP never sleeps...
