Twin Gatling Guns . Powered by a single M-motor, the gun barrels can spin and move back and forth to simulate recoil. Enjoy! . Video of the gatling guns in action and a closeup of the mechanism that powers it. Gun barrels can be raised and lowered. The yellow knob at the back is directly coupled to a worm that drives a worm gear to rotate the turntables on each side. The barrels cannot be rotated separately (doesn't make sense for them to pivot at different angles anyway). Double bevel from M-motor drives the double bevel gears for each barrel. The input drive into each arm causes the barrels to both spin and oscillate. I used the new hubs from the 42000 F1 Racer for this to work. A '+' axle is slotted into the hub, and when the axle rotates, so does the hub (this rotates the barrel). However, the axle is loose enough to allow the hub to slide along it, and the hub is moved forward and back (without the axle moving) by a 4 bar linkage which allows the barrels to oscillate back and forth to mimic recoil. The video should enlighten you on how it works! The body is tilted backwards so that the CG is directly above the base for greater stability. In addition, the oscillating motion of both barrels are in opposite directions, therefore cancelling out the vibratory forces. I intend to mount this MOC on the partition of my cubicle in office, so I aimed to reduce the vibration from the beginning. This MOC is partly inspired by this defence tower from the game Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge, called the Gattling Cannon. It's also inspired by the Red Battlezord used by the Red Zeo Ranger in the Power Rangers TV series. I was halfway through building the 42009 Mobile Crane MKII and realised that I could mount the gatling gun on top of it! What's more, the colours match very nicely. Now this resembles a mobile weapon platform. 5 axles! Now, back to work on the Mobile Crane... A closeup of a gun barrel. Hope you've enjoyed this!
