1993 Dauer 962 Le Mans in 1:9 scale . This is my version of one of the fastest cars ever made - the Dauer 962 . Hello everyone! Here it finally is, my first ever creation on mocpages.
First up, a short introduction. Dauer 962 is essentially a Porsche 962 racecar, thats been heavily modified to be street legal. So it looks like a 90s racer because basically it is one. Jochen Dauer, a former racing driver and the author of this car, wanted to give (very wealthy) people an opportunity to experience what it is like to drive a real racecar. And so, to maximise the racecar-alike performance, the car was kept as similar to the racer as possible, which is why f.e. it is so low to the ground. In 2002 the car was officially maxed out at Ehra Lessien at 404 kph (ca 253 mph). If you want to find out more about the Dauer then here is a good article from EVO magazine.
OK, moving on to the creation itself. I was so fascinated of the HUGE engine cover that it gave me the idea of building this car in the first place. Having read about it, i realized what a cool car it is and so building it became inevitable. :) I chose the big scale to replicate it as accurately as possible. I also made a-not-so-wise decision to build it with technics mostly as i think it would have been better off with bricks but technic parts are what i have the most so i gave it a try. I built the whole car in a traditional way i.e. without using any programs whatsoever. I just sat down and started to gather ideas and try them out. Of course this method was time consuming because if i wanted to change sth, i had to tear it apart first and then put back together again. But seeing the car gradually take proper shape, kept me motivated to continue. The car kept evolving throughout the build and nearly nothing stayed the same till the end. Well, the roof should have got another go because it turned out a bit too flat but i managed to build it in a way that it is nearly impossible to change without spending too much time on it. You can also notice some colour errors like the yellow bits and the roof section of the engine cover which should be black instead of red. Overall however, i am very happy with the final result.
The front wasnt very tricky to build. Here you can see the side intakes that lead air to the intercoolers.
The only thing missing here which i couldnt replicate are the side outlets at the back.
If the car seems a bit too wide (especially the roof) for you, then you are right because it is wider than it should. The difference is only 2 studs however.
Bottom view shows you the flat 6 engine with turbos on both sides, a massive diffusor at the back and... the lack of suspension. I decided to leave it out because the front is extremely low and everything but spacious.
I especially like the back views.
Check out those wheels! The real carīs black and red version have wheels exactly like this (take a look at them here) also the big diffusor is clearly evident here.
The door opens just like on the real thing.
The interior reveals just a wheel and a pair of very deep bucket seats. Note the intercooler resting on the extremely wide door sill. By the way, the black stripes on the intercoolers are actually black stickers. :)

The engine cover opened up. It was a nightmare to get it properly opening with the shock absorbers because they have to fit under the cover and be placed well forth from the back end and then of course they have to have enough power to push and hold the cover up, which they actually do... sort of. I have to admit that the cover could use a bit more covering plates but the main lines should be there.
And everything opened. In fact, the front should open as well but getting it opening was beyond my skills, besides there isnt much to look at there either.
But there sure is here however. All the turbos and intercoolers with exhausts to please the eye.
A closeup of the turbo. I borrowed the idea of the turbos from a user called roscopc on brickshelf.com. He has created some rather marvellous formula1 cars.
Hereīs a lovely feature for you: the front wheels turn at an angle! This is how they turn on every real car because it improves grip.
And hereīs how i made it: the upper wishbone is offset by half a stud from the lower one. Real simple but i havent noticed this feature on any other car on mocpages.
This is another cool feature - the locking mechanism of the engine cover. What actually hold the cover "locked" to the rest of the car, are the shock aborbers.
Finally, a closer view over the back end to show some building techniques. The back is the most sophisticated part of my moc.
