Dump Truck & Asphalt Spreader (31005) . Roads? Where we're going, we need roads. . Man, I haven't been on here in ages. Dark ages, to be exact, and they're not over yet. But! I can see the plastic-y light at the end of the LEGOŽ-less tunnel! Soon...I'm away from home and working with a reduced collection right now, and taking small, blurry pictures with my phone. Nonetheless, here's a model I made with Creator set 31005.An asphalt spreader is used to lay new road surface, during either construction or repairs. It has a big hopper on the front to receive hot asphalt from a dump truck. Conveyors or augers carry the asphalt to the back of the vehicle (called the "screel", I think?), and distribute it into a flat sheet.I was inspired to make this by (A) seeing one parked by the road a few weeks ago and (B) the selection of tires in the set. Here's the machine putting down a new road of espresso chocolate asphalt. MMM! Here are some views of the front and back of the truck and asphalt spreader: A side-on view of the complete model: This is a vanilla render made in POV-Ray via LeoCAD. Not sure I'll do much more with this. POV-Ray is cool, but I don't want to spend the time to learn all the lighting and stuff. Edit 131112: I used L3P to make a better render of this. L3P is the middleman between LeoCAD and POV-Ray, and it does stuff like putting seams between the bricks and logos on the studs. Good, eh?
