Volksrod . Volkswagen Beetle based, motorized lego hot rod . Hello everyone, this is my second MOC: Volkswagen beetle based hot rod. Plan was to make smaller, simpler and lighter car then previous one (Hot rod), but with same power (two L motors and 7.4 V rechargeable battery box), to achieve supreme driving capabilities. Two L motors are coupled and geared 5:1. Power is transmitted, without differential to increase drifting capabilities, to the rear wheels only. Tires are from 8041 set, front and rear. It is 18 studs wide and 38 studs long and there is no suspension. It has servo motor for steering and despite its speed it has very good handling and it is really fun to drive. With mass of only 565 g it has huge advantage in driving capabilities comparing to the hot rod (956 g). It dosen't have too many technic features due to its size and aimed low mass but, nevertheless, except possibility to remotely drive and steer there are: - Working steering wheel (directly connected to second output of servo motor). - Working serpentine belt part. Also there are few non technic details (which, I know, can be consider as dead weight but I hope that they add dose of reality): Suicide doors that can be opened and fake fuel tank at the front, with filler cap that can be opened. Front and rear seats that can be raised. Functional glove compartment. Fake engine. Battery is easy accessible for charging. More random photos: It goes without saying that everything you see is done for a reason, either because I wanted it so, or because I didn't have more appropriate part ;) Hope you enjoyed it :) p.s. It has been blogged: The LEGO Car Blog and TECHNIC GEARS
