Owl City – Adam Young Promo Minifigure (LEGO Toy Set) . The artist who gave us “Fireflies,” “Shooting Star,” and “Galaxies” is now in LEGO® minifigure form! . “We all suffer, but we recover, just to discover, life where we all are.” –Adam Young, from the song, Beautiful Times I’ve been listening to a lot of Owl City music lately and wanted to celebrate Adam’s success in the last five years by building him a sig-fig, complete with keyboard synthesizer, bench, and microphone. As always, I’ve used only official, unmodified LEGO elements. (Can you guess which space set the stickered 1 x 6 tile came from?) For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, Owl City is a music project by Adam Young, who started experimenting with electronica in his parents’ basement while suffering from insomnia. A one-man-band with a synthesizer, Young released his music on MySpace and signed on with Universal Republic in 2009 before topping the billboard charts with his song Fireflies later that year. Owl City’s music has now been featured in several major motion pictures, and Adam continues to experiment with electropop while collaborating with other artists and going on concert tours. Watch his video for Fireflies below (which actually features some LEGO blocks lying around): I really enjoy the poetic sense of wonder, sadness, and hope that he pours into his songs (try Beautiful Times and Shooting Star), and I certainly have fun with his bass-pounding, disco-like tunes (such as When Can I See You Again? and Live It Up). Like my small Olaf MOC, Adam’s sig-fig presented me with another opportunity to pretend I was designing an official LEGO set and practice my graphic design skills. The six box panels were designed in Photoshop, the building steps were created in MLCad and LPub, and everything was laid out in Publisher before printing. If this was an actual set, TLG would probably slip it in a polybag and ask $6.99 USD for it. Thanks for looking, and let me know what you think! ~Cole Please note: The box-art shown above was a fun, unofficial project that I did in my spare time and was in no way produced, sponsored, or otherwise officially-approved of by the LEGO Group (who owns the LEGO name and LEGO logo), by Republic Records (Owl City’s record label), or by Adam Young himself.
