-Clank, The Contenders #34
Clank is a robot living on Racta Magna, a member of the Order of Mata Nui and a friend to the Contenders. He has no tools or powers to boast of, but has enough strength to hold his own in most fights. With a hyperactive and eccentric personality, Clank is excessively happy and energetic to the point that it irritates and unnerves many people. Those who know him personally will attest to his benevolence and his strong dedication to protecting the Matoran and his closest friends.
Clank was a prototype service robot designed by the Brotherhood of Makuta to perform menial tasks and guard prisoners of war. This robot was fairly shoddily designed; bestowed with a sense of clumsiness. At one point, the robot accidently freed all of the prisoners under his watch. His superiors were so enraged that they literally tore him to shreds. The robot's memory chip was put into a waste disposal rocket and shot out into space. The rocket hit Racta Magna and the robot rebuilt himself from scraps in the rocket. This walking scrapheap migrated to the city of Racta Major, where he was embraced by the Matoran, who dubbed him "Clank" and allowed him to live in peace. Clank made friends with two Toa, Raxonax and Galia, whom he helped on their hunt for Shadonax. Clank left Racta Major, to live with his two new Toa friends in the wilderness.
One day two more Toa, Onika and Benu, approached Raxonax and Galia; they asked for help in fending off the Sombrak, a faction of the Brotherhood of Makuta, who were invading Racta Major. Clank accompanied the Toa back to the city and helped to battle the Sombrak at its gates. In this battle, Clank helped Galia and Onika take on one member of the Sombrak in particular, Makuta Fantos. While the Toa did most of the work in terms of whittling this foe down, Clank was the one who landed the final blow, killing Fantos with a blow to the head with Onika’s weapon. After the battle had ended, Clank returned with Raxonax and Galia to their home in the no man’s land outside Racta Major. Two years later, Clank left his old friends to join the Order of Mata Nui, moving back into the city he had previously defended. He lived there for a year before he witnessed the formation of the Contenders, a Toa team of which Raxonax and Galia were members.
The Contenders were formed to track down a surviving member of the Sombrak, Makuta Reshak, who sought to resurrect his old master, Aroxion. The Toa proved their mettle by defeating Doctor Forgen, a rogue Matoran who had taken Clank and his partners, Krode and Solorak, as hostage. As the Toa set off, Clank remained in the city, helping to defend it from foes such as Toa Kunar; his machine: the IRM; and the servants of Reshak: Dukrina, Apothrahk and Thisrahk. When the Contenders returned, Clank and Solorak accompanied them into the wastelands to stop Reshak’s servants from taking the Gate, a mystical tear in the fabric of reality capable of resurrecting dead beings; it was through this that Reshak sought to bring back his father. The Makuta took the Gate to Racta Major during a siege to perform the act. Clank defended the city as best he could, but was eventually defeated; Takathorax of the Contenders eventually sacrificed himself to foil Reshak’s plan.
A while later, after being left in power-down mode for a few days, Clank awoke to discover that the Contenders were harbouring several heroes from the Hero Factory, who had wronged a villain named Dread, who sought revenge. While Galia was unsure whether to forsake these heroes, Clank convinced her they did not deserve the punishment that Dread had proposed for them, and made the main hero, Mary Windbird, acknowledge that she had wronged Dread. While the others set out to track down Dread’s gang, Clank and Windbird remained in Racta Major, where they guarded the door; a job typically reserved for Krode, Clank’s partner. When Dread was defeated, Krode returned to reclaim his position as Gatekeeper. Clank continued to hang out with Krode, and at one point helped the Contenders fight off Kunar and his new ally, the feline Depravitie. An uneventful period proceeded for some time, until both Shadonax and Aroxion were resurrected and attacked Racta Major; the Contenders were beaten, leaving only Clank and Krode to fight them off.
They were easily defeated, and Clank was incarcerated along with the Matoran of Racta Major. Clank remained positive that the Contenders would rescue them, though the Matoran did not believe him. During the Contenders' revolt, Clank was freed in order to help the Toa liberate the city. Unfortunately, during the fight, Clank received an energy blast to the face from Solorak, destroying a large chunk of his cranium. However, he survived this, and managed to escape the city; he found that Raxonax was also free and followed him to Racta Minus, where they met Thanatos, the Torm and their Hero Factory allies from before; together they formed the Champions of Day and set out to re-conquer Racta Major; they brawled their way to the city entrance.
Clank and the Champions of Day are currently camping outside Racta Major.
Here he is! Believe it or not, some thought process and care went into making this, though the main reason I like building Clank is that I can do essentially whatever I want. :P
Your nightmares for the next two weeks :D
Adjusting his view.
Although it's probably too late to discuss the hype train, Clank is definately excited. BTW the sets are still due for Thursday, and the reviews for next week.
Don't worry folks, you don't need to nitpick this MOC, someone already did it for you :D
RIP Hero Factory; you were mildly entertaining for a while... :(
Speaking of Hero Factory; VOLTWHIP!
With Krode and Solorak
My next MOC is quite Glow-in-the-Dark-y :3
Clank! That's my line! Well, technically it's Warner Bros', but again, Metru Man handles the nitpicking here.
Contenders #1 comes out this week, probably Friday.
Bionicle Reviews next week.
See you then :D
