Torch XL . So now that the MOCpages server decided to sort its life out and bring the site back online, I decided to celebrate the fact with a new MOC! Continuing my series of Hero Factory XL MOCs is Sanah Torch! Enjoy! . “To the left here is Sanah Torch. Pilot, and a speedy stinger.”
-Arrowhead, The Contenders #19
Sanah Torch is a Hero working for the Hero Factory; more specifically under Jenna Arrowhead’s team. Despite her bulky XL form, she is generally considered a lightweight fighter, specialising in speedy attacks with her dual pistols; she is also an exceptional pilot. Sanah is simple and unintellectual, though her bubbly charm and silly humour make her a cherished part of her team; it was also part of the reason why she bonded with Toa Dorru of Racta Magna so well.
Torch was commissioned shortly before the ‘Savage Planet’ mission on Quatros, and underwent the standard Hero training procedure. She came out somewhat underdeveloped in physical combat, but with an exceptional skill at piloting aircraft; as a result, she was picked up by Jenna Arrowhead, a team leader who offered the young rookie a place in her group. Sanah managed to befriend her teammates very quickly, but grew a special connection to the introverted Joey Tumbler. However, the two were later separated when Tumbler was accidently left behind on Quatros during a training mission; little did Sanah know that this would incite deep bitterness within Tumbler, who then renounced his hero status to a life of villainy.
Sanah would meet with Tumbler once again during the villain breakout, where the villain attempted to take advantage of the event to blow up the abandoned Hero Factory Assembly Tower. Sanah at first greeted him as a friend, before she clued in to his true intentions. Though reluctant to hurt her friend, she had to subdue and arrest Tumbler, placing him in villain storage. Despite this somewhat traumatic event, Sanah continued her business as part of Arrowhead’s team, and even graduated to full hero status. Eventually, Tumbler was broken out by a villain named Dread, whom he then swore to serve. Dread boasted that he would soon kill Mary Windbird, a renowned hero, and set off. Torch, with Arrowhead and Cliff Scaler, set off after them.
Dread’s gang led the heroes to a planet named Racta Magna, where they met Windbird and warned her of Dread. They befriended a group of Toa named the Contenders and set up residence in the city of Racta Major; Sanah bonded with one Toa in particular named Dorru. Later, Dread approached the Contenders and demanded they give up Windbird; upon refusal, the villains attacked. Though they were chased off, Dread managed to reveal why he was after Windbird: she, along with others, firebombed the planet Gomorrah, killing his species. Sanah was horrified by this atrocity, but resolved to still defend her fellow hero. Later, Torch and Dorru set out to track down Tumbler and battle him, but were unfortunately defeated.
They then met up with two other Contenders, Montu and Cilla, and headed back home; On the way, they encountered and fought Dread again, narrowly scraping a victory. After they returned, Dread arrived at the city gates with his gang, in a second attempt to get Windbird; this culminated in another battle, where one of Mary’s friends, Jack Lupus, was killed. Unknown to Sanah, Tumbler had also died, killed shortly after the fight. Seeking revenge, the heroes tracked down the lair of Dread’s gang and defeated them once and for all, though not before Windbird sacrificed herself in atonement for the Gomorran Genocide. The heroes soon returned to Makuhero City; Sanah was particularly sad to say goodbye to her new friend, Dorru.
Back home, the Heroes campaigned for the Gomorran Genocide to be officially recognised, with flashy XL upgrades to publicise their cause. However, they were soon summoned back to Racta Magna following a distress call from Galia of the Contenders; their planet had been taken over by villains known as the Shadebringers, casting the rock into perpetual night. Torch, Scaler, Arrowhead and a new member, Stinger, arrived on the planet and met with Toa Raxonax, along with some other Toa who had not yet been imprisoned. Under the direction of the Godly Thanatos, they became the Champions of Day and set out to win back the city of Racta Major. They soon battled their way to the city Gate, only to set up camp there.
Sanah and the others are now helping to lead the charge against the Shadebringers.
BAM! How do you like them apples? I'm quite happy with how this MOC turned out; she's enough bulk to sate the XL title, while keeping the slim, feminine form that suits her character.
The Back. The only thing I'd like to change about the MOC is the shoulders; the add-ons sit a little too far up for my taste. I'll have to change that when I get the chance.
As you could see from the main image, her weapon hasn't been changed that much, (aside from the black pieces) but now she has two pistols as opposed to one.
Height comparison with Ekimu the Mask Maker!
Yes, after all this time Metru Man is still around! Why? I've no clue!
Drink lots of milk, kids! (Something I'm surprised that Depravitie doesn't do, actually.)
With Dorru! Again, I'm reconsidering the shoulder-pads.
All my HF heroes! Only one left awaiting the XL treatment!
That's all folks!
Also, don't forget The Contenders #34 is coming out on the 19th of December, along with my next MOC and some big news about Contenders Book 3!
See you in three weeks! :D
So as I said, I didn't like the tall shoulders very much; I originally planned to use the K2-SO Star Wars shoulder pieces, but when I got the set, I didn't realise that a huge, unmistakable Star Wars logo would be printed on both of them! (I thought they'd be stickers!) So sadly, I couldn't use them.
Fortunately, however, I discovered that flipping the shoulder pieces around created a rather nice look, and bulked her out quite a bit. The only problem now was that her shoulders were especially flat, and the distinct lack of yellow that created on the shoulders threw off the colour scheme a little. This was an easy fix however; the Technic shoulder pads I created for her work perfectly! I'm really happy with how this turned out.
