Insurgency Build - Riptide Walker . It's a miracle! The photos uploaded on the first try! . It's high time I posted this... I've had the pics taken for over two months. I'll leave it to you guys to figure out how long it's been built in the first place.
This has to have been one of my funnest builds to date. I really enjoyed putting it together, though I may have done a little too many grills for an Imperium vehicle. It was inspired by one of the walkers from some random game I used to play a while back. Enjoy!
The build itself is pretty simple. The whole thing is based around the canopy piece I used. After I figured out I wanted to use that, the whole thing came together really quickly.
The legs and feet were also quick simple, but I really enjoyed finding the best way to make them big enough for the whole mech to be balanced out and not topple over if you don't hold it. I feel like the greebling on the heels were a nice addition too.
The mech definitely looks best from behind. The screwdriver antenna really worked out well. I just wish I had one of the long black pieces in grey still ... No such luck, I suppose.
I'm quite proud of the computer design with the way I connected the transparent medium blue 1x2 plate to the clip. Admittedly, it makes it hard to remove the pilot, but it's not a big deal.

Description: The original Riptide was designed soon after the Shift, when the Aurelia-Imperial war really got into swing. Deployed on battlefronts all over the world - and later, galaxy - the Riptide’s design has stayed mostly the same throughout the war, with minor upgrades being made to its weapons systems.
The Riptide is essentially a walking turret platform, and should generally be used as such. It is equipped with two sets of rotating quad machine guns, which fire frag rounds or explosive ammunition (yes, there is a difference). Aside from the cannons, Riptides are equipped with a highly sophisticated communications system, which can be substituted for a rack of 12 heat-seeking missiles. Riptides are operated by a single pilot, who is aided by the mechs’ AI systems.
Strengths and weaknesses: Riptides are primarily deployed for infantry use, but are highly versatile. Their heavy firepower can be utilized both on the battlefield or in defensive positions. Though standard Riptides lack the firepower to bring down heavier ground vehicles (i.e. heavy tanks), their optional missile rack can be devastating under the right conditions. The Riptides’ main weakness is its slow movement speed and agility. It is susceptible to rocky or uneven landscapes, and usually is most effective is firing downwind on large groups of enemy infantry from a stationary position. The pilot is protected by heavy bulletproof glass, with additional frontal energy-based shielding enclosing the canopy. However, a well-placed direct hit from a rocket or other long-range projectile can bring a Riptide to its literal knees. Additionally, the areas on the sides of the canopy are open to the air, so a well-trained sniper could, theoretically, kill the pilot with a single shot.
