SFV 02 "ASPIDE" . "No sane commander would ever leave one side of the front unmanned." it is with this spirit that, already at the time of the CS, the REPUBBLICA LEGIONARIA began to look at space. the need to have an appropriate defense tool able to effectively defend the interests in that theater immediately appeared obvious. the development of compact fusion reactors was fundamental, and led to the realization of the 211 prototype (... the number of parts of which it is composed ...) and to the first tests in flight. unfortunately the immature technology and technical solutions too bold due to the limitations of the materials of that time caused the loss of the prototype after a few flights, but the data collected and the lessons learned (at a high price) made it possible to develop the concept at the base of the vehicle and brought in a short time the construction of the first space fighting vehicle, the SFV 01 "SERPE". the interest in space activities was however already decreasing as it required a high number of resources (no nation could afford it) and consequently the "SERPE" program also stopped abruptly and only a dozen SFV 01 became operational . the program has never been officially closed because ... it has never been officially opened! a project born in the utmost secrecy that continued in secrecy, even during interception operational missions, to protect the lunar installations from potentially dangerous asteroids or curious satellites, which "inexplicably stopped working". now we look again at space in search of new resources, and the years of data, experience, progress in materials and technique have led to the creation of SFV 02 "ASPIDE". . Project 211. seeking maximum lightness leads to an essential structure that is too fragile to withstand the stress given by the maneuvers it was capable of. the "211" in one of its test flights. the SFV 01: its armament was formed by a 25mm cannon and two heavy rockets for targets with predictable trajectory and speed, such as asteroids, satellites or transport vehicles. 1-the small telemetric radar: for pointing weapons. 2-landing gear pads: much more suitable than the "211" perches on the lunar surface in case of emergency landing away from the solid pitches of the lunar base. 3-the "retrorockets": propellers for deceleration whose support and rear extension are an integral part of the solutions for strengthening the structure. 4-the flight instrumentation: it was very advanced for that time but almost all analogue. 5- wing blocks: the rhombus shape of the wings required reinforcement to eliminate possible collapses during decelerations. 6- the characteristic "ribbed" reinforcement structure. 7-spin stabilizers: regulate the speed of plasma flow. 8-injectors: they guarantee the regularity of plasma flow to the propeller. 9-main propeller: the first reliable MIP (Mono-flow Ionic Propeller) "Vulcan". after the experience with the "211", which did not allow the pilot to leave the vehicle in the event of serious damage, the release system of the entire cockpit was developed, with the possibility of maneuvering by means of adjustable auxiliary rockets. all the technical advances developed since the "SERPE" entered service, are now condensed in the "ASPIDE". the triangular structure of the wings has a high stiffness, eliminating the problems of undesired bending of the rhomboid structure, the immediate and precise response to the commands is obtained even in the maneuvers with a high number of G. one might think: "what do you need a retractable landing gear if, in space, there is no friction of the atmosphere?" answer: the smaller the mass is away from the center of rotation and the lower the force necessary to obtain the rotation. result: the speed of rotation is greater at equal strength, so the vehicle becomes more agile and responsive. secondly there is less reflective surface to the radars ... the Aspide is equipped with a compact and powerful multifunction radar (AESA) integrated with the receivers-emitters of the ECM system installed at the top of the wings, in the front "fangs" of the cockpit and in the rear bulb below the main propeller. covering the entire spherical arc makes it a difficult target to surprise and an opponent from whom it is difficult to escape. here all the push vectors are highlighted. for deceleration: the secondary thrusters move towards the bow. the modular structure allows the release of the main engine during the flight in case of serious damage. in the "SERPE" this was not possible. DIP (Double-flow Ionic Propeller) "Quasar". 1- safety valves. automatically release excess plasma. 2-injection chambers: unlike the MIP, in which there is a single plasma flow, in the DIP two flows are simultaneously ready for injection, and by correctly differentiating the output times and speeds, a further boost is obtained which is greater than the simple sum of the two flows themselves. 1,2-helium tanks: ionized, it is used for propulsion. 3-fusion reactor: tritium and deuterium are contained in an internal tank. the main take-off engine and the secondary ones are integrated. return to base in safe condition. The small lower helium tank feeds the propulsion. the energy, also for the pilot maintenance system, is given by fuel cells integrated in the hull. transport is not the primary vocation of ASPIDE but one of the less obvious but vital tasks, the rapid supply of liquids (hydrogen, helium or other) of outposts and dry vehicles, can take place thanks to two large multi-use tanks. for tactical reconnaissance a multispectrum sensor is installed, and with two additional tanks (the amount of helium is almost double) it is possible to reach very high speed on target.first you reach the goal, first you will have information, and the bonds to be intercepted will be lower. strike: 4 heavy rockets are used to attack "easy" targets with a known position or predictable trajectory: surface installations, transport vehicle, asteroids, normally slow and not very agile heavy ships. the primary vocation of ASPIDE: interception. each asp has its own poison. SFV 02 has the hyper fast exoatmosphere missile (HEM) Venom. thanks to 8 adjustable jets installed behind the war head, it has a maneuvering capacity that allows it to engage any target.
