Poets & Playwrights . Minifigs inspired by my favorite poets and playwrights. . As a poet myself, I can't help but honor my favorite poets and playwrights in my "other" form of artistic expression -- as LEGO minifigs, of course! W.B. Yeats (Irish, 1865-1939) leads this all-star cast. George Bernard Shaw: Irish playwright, socialist, and Nobel laureate. 1856-1950. Geoffrey Chaucer: English writer, poet, Comptroller of the Custom and Subsidy of Wool, blogger. Born ca. 1343, died in 1400. This minifig accompanied me to Chaucer's tomb in Westminster Abbey. Sadly, photography was not allowed. T.S. Eliot: Poet, critic, expatriate American, naturalized Englishman. 1888-1965. Another traveling companion to his own grave in Poets' Corner at Westminster. John Gower: English poet, friend of Chaucer, blogger, wanker. Born ca. 1330, died in 1408. Richard Hugo: American poet, novelist, and teacher. 1923-1982. Sylvia Plath: American poet, novelist, essayist. 1932-1963. Ezra Pound: American poet, critic, economist, musician, Fascist sympathizer. 1885-1972. Theodore Roethke: American poet and teacher. 1908-1963. Anne Sexton: American poet and writer. 1928-1974. William Stafford: American poet, critic, and pacifist. 1914-1993. Gertrude Stein: American writer, poet, playwright, feminist. 1874-1946. David Wagoner: American poet and teacher. A personal mentor and influence.
