1978 War of the Worlds Blooddrainer . It's the Blooddrainer as seen on the magnificant artwork of The Musical version of War of the Worlds album, by Michael Trim and Geoff Taylor. . Some time ago I made the Fighting Machine, the one you can see on the cover of Jeff Wayne's musical version of The War of the Worlds. In addition, this is the Martian Blooddrainer I wanted to do for some time, but always lacked the amount of bricks. "...The Martians spent the night making a new machine. It was a squat, metallic spider with huge articulated claws-but it, too, had a hood in wich the Martians sat. I watched it pursuing some people across a field. It caught them nimbly and tossed them into a great metal basket upon its back..." Again, I made the Martian machine in black. First, because I still don't have the white supplies to get the job done (...uhm...that didn't come out the way I wanted it to...) Second, because an evil machine -especially an instrument of death- goes better with black. And it contrasts better with green. This is the metal basket some people are refering to in their comments on the Fighting Machine. Mostly people mix up Martian Machines from the 1953 movie, the newest release of the movie with Tom Cruise and the musical version from 1978. Just to get it right this time: Here, Every Martian Machine has it purpose. There are Fighting Machines, Hunters, Scouters, Workers... This, Earthlings, is a Hunter. "...Then, on the ninth day, I saw the Martians eating. Inside the hood of their new machine, they were draining the fresh living blood of men and women and injecting it into their own veins..." "...I heard the Martian fumbling at the latch. In the darkness I could see the claw touching things, walls, coal, wood- and then it touched my boot! I almost shouted! For a time it was still and then, with a click, it gripped something. The Parson! With slow deliberate movements , his unconscious body was dragged away...and there was nothing I could do to prevent it..." Not much pictures on the internet of this one; all the fame goes to the Fighting Machine. Anyway, these are the pictures I based my creation on. Thanks for looking, and feel free to leave a comment!
